(Palm Beach Gardens) – Now in its 18th year, The EWGA (Executive Women’s Golf Association) Championship is the largest women’s amateur golf competition in the country. The event provides competitive tournament golf for members of all skill levels and more than 2,500 members participate annually. The EWGA Championship offers two different competitive formats: Stroke Play Competition and Team Scramble Competition.
This year the EWGA has selected The Wigwam Golf Resort in Litchfield Park, Arizona to host its Championship Finals which will take place September 7th and 8th.
The Wigwam is more than a resort; it is a part of Arizona history. Situated in the West Valley, this iconic hotel has become synonymous with Litchfield Park and is in many ways the cornerstone of that very community. Blending casual elegance with the charm of the Southwest, The Wigwam is a 440 acre getaway destination that promises unforgettable experiences, no matter the reason for visiting. The Wigwam is best known for its 54 holes of championship-caliber golf. Among them are two Robert Trent Jones, Sr. courses that include the famed Gold Course, and The Patriot (formerly Blue Course). Rounding out the golf experience is The Heritage (formerly the Red Course), designed by renowned course architect Red Lawrence.
In order to make it to the Championship Finals, stroke play competitors play in one of ÌøåÂåve ÌøåÂ?ights at their Chapter Championship qualifying events flighted by their USGA Handicap Index. In the Scramble Division, teams consist of four women from an EWGA Chapter who meet the eligibility requirements to play in the EWGA Championship. The team “handicap factor” is established based on the USGA Handicap Index of all four of the players. Players have a choice to select the competitive format that best fits their game, personality and skill level. This Chapter Championship is the first stage of qualifying for the EWGA Championship that starts with the EWGA members’ local chapter.
Following the Chapter Championship is the District Semi-Finals, which consists of one eighteen hole round held at fifteen different venues from June to August. After the Semi-Finals is the exciting National Finals where members representing 122 EWGA Chapters compete for honors in five flights.
With a final field of more than 220 players at the Finals, competitors will play two Championship Tournament Rounds on the same course assigned to their respective flight. The PATRIOT Course will host the First, Second, Third, and Fourth Flights. The HERITAGE Course will host the Championship Flight and Scramble Teams.
