Award-winning 18-hole Marriott Golf-managed facility to host college club golf members for two-day stroke play event; Toftrees to welcome student golfers from Duquesne, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Robert Morris, West Virginia and Youngstown State
ORLANDO, Fla., September 4, 2013…Marriott Golf, one of the world’s premier golf operators, today announced that Toftrees Golf Club, an award-winning 18-hole Championship golf course located in State College, Pennsylvania, will host the second National Collegiate Club Golf Association (NCCGA) Atlantic Regional golf tournament, a two-day stroke play event that takes place on October 26-27.
Highlighting the event, the NCCGA brings together the nation’s finest non-varsity collegiate golfers for weekend competitions in 16 regions spanning from New England to California. Hundreds of golfers compete on their campus club golf teams to qualify for NCCGA events, with students who participate in regional qualifiers competing for a chance to play in the National Championship at Barefoot Resort in Myrtle Beach on November 16 and 17. In 2013, the NCCGA Atlantic Region has 7 college club golfers competing at Toftrees on October 26 and 27, including students from Duquesne University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Penn State University, University of Pittsburgh, Robert Morris University, West Virginia University and Youngstown State University.
“The entire staff at Toftrees is very excited to host the NCCGA Atlantic Regional Tournament and showcase our first-class golf course and facilities to rising college golfers from throughout the region,” said Tom Katancik, Director of Golf, Toftrees Golf Club.
Today, according to berecruited.com, there are over 226,000 golfers who play competitive high school golf and just over 10,000 of those students play varsity golf in college. The NCCGA, and its sister organization CollegeGolfPass, make golf a reality for over 5500 non-varsity college students at over 300 colleges across the country. Toftrees Golf Club is one of hundreds of golf courses that are part of the CollegeGolfPass “College-Rated” network, which offers exclusive collegiate rates to the CollegeGolfPass student members across the nation. By hosting a NCCGA event and allowing students to play golf more affordably, Toftrees Golf Club is at the forefront of helping grow golf’s next generation.
Adds Katancik, “We are extremely proud of Toftrees relationship with the NCCGA and CollegeGolfPass, as it allows us to continually help grow the game by providing affordable golf to thousands of students and allowing them to hone their skills on top-level golf courses.”
Toftrees – meaning “home among the trees” – has been rated 4½ stars by Golf Digest magazine’s “Places to Play” and was also named one of Pennsylvania’s Best Resort/Public Golf Courses. With breathtaking views of the pristine golf course and the surrounding mountain landscape, Toftrees was also selected by Meetings and Conventions magazine as one of the “Top 75 Golf Conference Center Resorts in the U.S.”
Toftrees Golf Club is conveniently located 3 miles from Penn State University campus and 2 miles from University Park Airport. For more information please visit www.toftrees.com, or call (814) 238-7600.
