FRENCH LICK, IN, September 10, 2013 — The First Tee of South Central Indiana announces today that The First Tee of Indiana has formally approved its new chapter located in southern Indiana.
Through the efforts of French Lick Resort, Sultan’s Run Golf Club, Jasper, Indiana, and Lucas Oil Golf Course, English, Indiana, the South Central Indiana First Tee Chapter has become a reality. Supporters of Junior Golf from Orange County, Dubois County and Crawford County have banded together to help grow the game through this new First Tee chapter, all while teaching elementary school age children about the Nine Core Values of the First Tee.
“The First Tee has been a dream for many of us for quite some time, and now, with this great joint effort and the commitment on behalf of the courses, the South Central Chapter of the First Tee of Indiana will become a reality,” said Chris Tretter, Chairman of The First Tee of South Central Indiana.
The First Tee of South Central Indiana, through a variety of after school and in school programs, will help shape the lives of young people through character building and instilling values through the game of golf. This will include providing golf programs for elementary school physical education students and teachers, developing positive personal and social values associated with the game, engaging students in daily lessons that enhance motor skill development, and presenting golf as a lifelong recreational activity.
Dave Harner, PGA Director of Golf at French Lick Resort, and one of the founding supporters believes that this part of the First Tee program very important to the future growth of young people. “While the physical activity of golf and playing the game is a very important aspect of what we want to achieve through the First Tee, the teaching of the Nine Core Values is the most critical and possibly life-changing component to what we are doing.”
Funding for the First Tee will be through involvement of various Community Foundations in the respective counties, as well as private donations.
The Chapter’s first fundraising event will be held on October 20, 2013 at the Donald Ross Course at French Lick Resort. The event will be a four-person team scramble, which will tee-off at 1:00 p.m. and include team prizes, hole prizes, a live auction, and raffle drawing. This is wonderful opportunity for area businesses to give back to their community.
