(LONDONDERRY, NH) – Danish brand ECCO – a leading global manufacturer of innovative footwear – confirms that Staff Player Thomas Bjørn wore its luxurious World Class GTX golf shoes en route to winning the Omega European Masters this past weekend at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Switzerland.
Showcasing the ECCO logo on his collar while competing in wet conditions on one of his favorite courses, Bjørn claimed his 14th career European Tour title in fine fashion. The 42-year-old Dane carded only two bogeys over 72 holes to finish tied for the lead at 20-under par. He then sealed victory on the first playoff hole by sinking a 12-foot birdie putt.
“All of them are special, but this is nice because I did everything right this week,” said Bjørn, who once again moved inside the top-50 on the Official World Golf Ranking. “Hopefully I will take some positives from this and show some good form over the back end of the year and get even further up the rankings.”
Along with earning his first title since the 2011 Omega European Masters, Bjørn advanced to eighth in the Race to Dubai. This comes after an up-and-down season that’s included six other top-10s, notably back-to-back seconds in June at the Lyoness Open and BMW International Open.
“Week after week and season after season, Thomas just continues to solidify his position as not just the greatest Danish golfer of all time, but also one of our country’s most accomplished sportsmen,” says Jesper Thuen, Global Sponsorship, PR & Event Manager – ECCO Golf. “It’s really fitting that he returned to the winner’s circle on this particular course that he loves playing so much.”
A distinctive leather-soled golf shoe, World Class GTX combines traditional craftsmanship with modern performance technologies. Its rich leather uppers are waterproof via a GORE-TEX® membrane, while an ECCO Second Skin lining and insole promote superior comfort, cushioning and climate control.
In addition to Bjørn, the ECCO men’s golf collection is worn in competition by scores of international Tour stars, including Fred Couples, Graeme McDowell, Marcel Siem, Thongchai Jaidee, Andreas Hartø, Wu Ashun, Stuart Appleby, JB Hansen and many others.
