COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., September 14, 2013 – iWanamaker Corporation, creator of the breakthrough mobile application for real-time golf scoring, has partnered with the Colorado High School Activities Association to serve as the official scoring system for this year’s CHSAA boys region and state golf championships, beginning this week.
This is the first time live scoring will be part of the CHSAA post-season golf competition, which is to be contested during the next three weeks. Regional Tournaments 12 sites are scheduled this week for 3A, 4A and 5A divisions, with the State Golf Championships set for Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 (3A at Pueblo Country Club, 4A at Hiwan Country Club, 5A at Common Ground Golf Course).
“This is very exciting to be a part of the state championships,” said Doyle Heisler, the founder and president of iWanamaker, which is based in Colorado Springs. “We believe we can bring a whole new level of excitement to every class of competition.”
The CHSAA and iWanamaker also are to partner for the 2014 girls region and state golf championships next spring.
Having managed the scoring for more than 200 golf events since its debut in 2012 – including numerous high school invitational tournaments – iWanamaker combines desktop and mobile application technology to allow golfers and their invited followers to view live leaderboards during tournaments via their mobile devices. The application is integrated via web services and social media; security allows only invited users to access a designated event.
“The enthusiasm from the high school coaches and parents has been tremendous,” said Dan Padrnos, who is part of the iWanamaker sales team, noting that the system not only handles scoring, but all aspects of a tournament, from registration to tee times. “One coach told me she never felt more organized after seeing how we work.”
Players normally keep score for each other in their groups, as is customary in competitive golf (exchanging scorecards). But for the CHSAA championships, walking scorers will record hole-by-hole scores on a smartphone. Besides access to live scoring via mobile devices, computers and tablets, there will be a live leaderboard in the clubhouse, (normally shown on a big-screen TV).
This summer, Colorado Springs’ popular Pikes Peak Junior Golf League used the iWanamaker system with positive results. Not only did the league enjoy a spike in participation, but it gave the family and friends of competitors the unique ability to follow the action “live” from anywhere in the country.
One winner of a Pikes Peak tournament credited the iWanamaker live scoring system for his victory, saying that having the real-time information on where he stood going into the final holes, rather than having to guess, dictated he be more aggressive, which he was down the stretch.
