ORLANDO, Fla. – The Reunion Resort is hosting the inaugural two-day golf tournament Oct. 21 & 22 that will re-ignite the Space Coast Pro Tour (SCPT) in Central Florida. The winner is guaranteed a $5,000 first-place check (Men’s Open Division) and the top 30 percent of the field will receive a portion of the purse.
The Space Coast Pro Tour, presented by Edwin Watts Golf, has more than 35 two-day events scheduled at premier resorts and championship layouts in the greater Orlando area. In addition to the prize money awarded at each event, there will also be a Skins Game along with hole-in-one cash prizes exceeding $10,000.
“We firmly believe the many aspiring players need and want a developmental tour which not only gives them the opportunity to compete in a highly professional manner and atmosphere but also the ability to achieve financial success while they pursue their dream of playing on the Web.com, Symetra, PGA, LPGA or Champions Tours,” said Jeffrey Bernstein and Brian Schindler, the two SCPT owners.
The original Space Coast Tour was played throughout Central Florida in the ’70s and ’80s. Notable alumni such as PGA and Champions Tour players Kenny Perry, Mark O’Meara, Paul Azinger and Mark Calcavecchia made their initial mark on the SCPT.
In addition to the Men’s Open Division, the SCPT will have a 47+ Senior Division and a 60+ Legends Division. Male or female amateurs with a USGA index of 3.0 or lower are eligible to play. Each tournament will have an entry fee of $420, but there is No Membership Fee to play on the SCPT.
Professionals who have full exempt playing status on the Web.com Tour, PGA Tour or Champions Tour may not play in the SCPT regular tournaments.
A unique feature of the SCPT is the inclusion of a Women’s Division. Any female professional golfer, regardless of age, who does not have full exempt playing status on the LPGA Tour, may participate in the regular SCPT tournaments.
“We are excited to be offering a Women’s Division on the (Space Coast Pro) Tour,” said Bernstein. “There are not many opportunities for top female golfers to compete on such a high level and we are delighted to provide more women a pathway to success.”
The SCPT is being structured to become one of the finest mini tours in the country.
“Competing on mini tours can be financially challenging for a LPGA or PGA Tour hopeful,” Bernstein said. “Our number one goal is to serve the players. The Space Coast Pro Tour will be providing players beneficial discounts at host courses as well as sponsor discounts including food and lodging.”
The SCPT has aligned itself with the Mike Bender Academy of Golf for player practice and instructional needs and will also be hosting a Pro-Am in 2014 to benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation.
