Championship venue continues its tradition of hosting premier championship golf tournaments
Maricopa, Ariz. (September 24, 2013) – Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club and the PGA TOUR are pleased to announce that one of the “First Stage” sites for the WEB.COM’s Qualifying Tournament will be held October 8-11, 2013 at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes’ 7,500-yard championship venue.
The tournament will be a 72-hole event, with 18 holes being played each of the competition days. Practice rounds will be played on Sunday, October 6 and Monday, October 7. Play will begin at 8:00 a.m. on all four days of the competition and there is no entry fee for spectators.
“Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club was selected as one of the 12 first qualifying stage sites for the 2013 Web.com Tour Qualifying Tournament because it is in great condition, offers a wide variety of holes with challenging shot values and different lengths and does not favor one type of player, making the players use all their clubs during the competition,” said Steve Carman, tournament director of the PGA TOUR. “The short 323-yard par-four 14th and the long 484-yard par-four eighth are both great examples of what we look for to test some the best golfers in the world.”
“We are pleased to continue the tradition of hosting world-class events at Troon Golf-managed facilities here at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club,” stated Brady Wilson, general manager, Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. “We are appreciative of the support and commitment the Ak-Chin Community continues to make to help our facility continue to be viewed as one of the greatest championship golf venues in the state of Arizona.”
The tournament field will consist of approximately 78 players who have either qualified for the first stage through automatic qualifications based on past performance or having qualified through the PGA TOUR’s pre-qualifying tournaments that were held in early September.
