Thirty-six years ago, an aging Jack Nicklaus made an improbable run at the 1986 Masters. The Golden Bear used his Clay Long-designed MacGregor Response ZT MI-615 Putter to shoot a back-nine 30 on Sunday, securing his sixth Green Jacket and 18th major championship. At different points throughout Clay Long’s 40+ year career in the golf equipment business, the master craftsman has held senior positions at Macgregor, Acushnet, and TaylorMade. His design firm, Plus 2 International, was also responsible for Nicklaus Golf Equipment for a decade, making him one of the few individuals to work closely with both Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus.
