NOVI, MI – As he made the turn on Sunday at Royal Troon Golf Club after a birdie on the par four 9th hole, 2THUMB’s Thriston Lawrence found himself on the top of the leaderboard with a one-shot lead at the 152ndOpen Championship. After shooting a 4-under 32 on the front nine, Lawrence banked eight pars on the back including the final 458-yard, 18th to secure a solo fourth-place finish. Lawrence shot a final round 68 and a tournament total of 6-under 278, three shots behind the champion, Xander Schauffele.
The 27-year-old Lawrence is from Kempton, South Africa. He turned pro in 2014 and became a member of the DP World Tour in 2021 with his victory at the Joburg Open. Since then, Lawrence’s star has been rising with four victories on the DP World Tour. In 2022, he became the first South African to win the DP World Tour’s Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award. He qualified for this year’s Open by finishing 19th in the 2023 Race to Dubai.

In addition, Laurence moved to fifth in the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai. The top 10 non-exempt players in the Race to Dubai at the season’s end, will earn their PGA TOUR cards for 2025.
