NOVI, MI – Rory McIlroy stood alone on the 18th green Sunday at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, happily, victorious, and emotional, as he was awarded two stunning and fittingly large trophies, one for winning The DP World Tour Championship, the final event on the European Tour, and the second for the season long Race to Dubai rankings. It was his 3rd DP World Championship title and 6th Race to Dubai victory.
Amongst the many players chasing McIlory was Englishman and 2THUMB player ambassador, Matt Wallace, who finished tied for 11th with a score of -8 and a career high 14th finish in the Race to Dubai standings.
Wallace had a standout 2024 season on the DP World Tour. The 34-year-old competed in 13 tournaments and made 12 cuts. He had one win three top 10 finishes and eight 25 finishes.
Wallace, who’s home course is Wentworth Golf Course, site of the European PGA Championship, won the 2024 Omega European Masters in a playoff with a birdie on the first extra hole against Alfredo Garcia-Heredia. His other notable finishes included a T3 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and a T8 at Betfred British Masters. His sole PGA TOUR title is the 2023 Corales Puntacana Championship.
