Novi, MI – 2THUMB putting grip player and member of the DP World Tour birdied his final five holes on Sunday to win the South African Open at Stellenbosch Golf Club. The South African won for the second straight week after claiming his first-career title at the 2026 Magical Kenya Open at Karen Country Club in Kenya, February 19-22.
During his first DP Tour win two weeks ago, the tour rookie made a statement shooting two blazing low rounds and a pair of 62s. One during his opening round on Thursday which he bookended with another for the win on Sunday. He finished at 25-under, three shots over American Davis Bryant.
The 22-year-old South African was feeling “on top of the world” to win his country’s open title in front of his home crowd on Sunday. He fired a closing 3-under 67 to win by three shots over fellow South African Hennie Du Plessis, Frederic Lacroix and Francesco Laporta. By winning his national open championship, the 2THUMB player receives two major invitations to the 2026 Masters next month and the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in July.
Playing with the 2 THUMB STP 27 putting grip, the South African rookie holed a 40-foot birdie putt on the opening hole of the SA Open, then birdied the par four fourth, and birdied the par-5 fifth. He finished 14-under, for a four-round total of 266, to secure his second victory in two weeks.
The STP 27 features a smooth soft and flat front to ensure consistent grip alignment with a deeper butt end, axe handle shape that perfectly feels the space naturally created between hand and grip. 2THUMB’s proprietary Dimax technology runs down both sides of the grip to ensure traction helping players sink more putts.
“It’s my dream as a kid to play at Augusta,” the South African said. “I thought about it in the morning — it’s hard not to think about it. I cannot wait to go there and see how my game compares with the best players in the world.”
