WARREN MI – While Davis Thompson was setting the 72-hole record at the John Deere classic, and capturing his first win of the PGA Tour, 2 Thumb putting grips were setting records as well. The start-up grip company is gaining traction on the PGA Tour with seven of the Top 50 ranked players worldwide in the field playing 2Thumb grips.
2Thumb is not exactly a start-up in some aspects. The company was founded in the U.K. in 2004 and has had great success on the DP World Tour. But the company hadn’t made much of an impact in the U.S. Along came Darin Dingman, one of the co-founders and lead designers, of Super Stroke putting grips.
Dingman had been a longtime fan of 2Thumb grips, and the methodology invented by putting coach and professional golfer, Philip Gazely. After the sale of SuperStroke, Dingman pursued ventures outside of the golf business, but during COVID, he got the itch again and decided to jump back in.
The 2Thumb grip was Dingman’s initial inspiration for the design of SuperStroke’s original and top-selling flat top grip, the FLATSO.
Dingman became a majority owner in the newly formed U.S. based operation along with 2Thumb’s CEO Paul Homersham, who gave him full control of design, operations and building the brand based on his experience and success.
