Leading golf research firm in the U.S. & Great Britain, Golf Datatech, and Yano, Japan’s #1 golf research firm, to aggregate powerful, consistent and reliable data to help propel worldwide golf industry development; alliance to focus on golf product categories, retail channel sizes and overall market statistics
ORLANDO, Fla., October 1, 2013 … With the United States and Japan reigning as the world’s #1 and #2 golf markets, respectively, a major alliance was announced today between the industry’s two leading independent golf research and data firms. Golf Datatech, LLC (www.golfdatatech.com) and Yano Research Institute of Japan have agreed on a joint ongoing working relationship to aggregate consistent and reliable data with powerful insights to propel worldwide golf industry development.
Highlighting the joint efforts of Golf Datatech and Yano Research Institute, the alliance will release a first-of-its-kind “US/Japan Golf Market Report” in January 2014 that will capture and compare the relative size and scope of the combined US and Japan golf markets, and their relationship to the world’s golf marketplace. The report will be introduced at a press conference to be held at the 2014 PGA International Merchandise Show in Orlando, FL.
“Both Yano and Golf Datatech have worked hard for many years to establish our independent companies in the golf industry, with a mission to provide reliable data for the industry’s sustainable growth,” said Golf Datatech’s Tom Stine. “The manufacturers, golf course operators, golf retailers and the industry in general rely on us to provide accurate, unbiased data on many of the industry’s key drivers. We have great expectations that a cooperative effort joining our combined resources can provide the industry with a reliable look at where it is and where it is going. We estimate that our current combined data encompasses nearly 70% of world golf equipment and apparel sales.”
“The Yano Research Institute has established its position in Japan as the source for golf market statistics and overall research reliability,” said Takashi Mizukoshi, President, Yano Research Institute Ltd. “Virtually every major golf supplier relies on Yano’s data for tracking their sales and marketing efforts in the Japanese marketplace. We look forward to combining our efforts with Golf Datatech to help our clients better understand and track the other global markets.”
Adds Stine, “Golf is truly a worldwide sport, with courses being played in over 200 countries. But the emerging markets for golf like China, Southeast Asia, Central Europe and South America have just begun to touch their potential. Further, golf’s introduction into the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil will undoubtedly spark interest in the game worldwide. This global expansion of golf necessitates a need to have solid, consistent data to track growth and progress on all levels, from player participation to golf equipment sales. This will be our mission.”
