This question in unavoidable. Industry players keep on talking up a storm about initiatives to grow the game of golf.
Most golfers love the game but it must be accepted that it is also dying. In the Western Hemisphere, the percentage of the population who play, has been dropping. Combined with this more courses have closed than opened in North America. And if one was to do a health check on the golf industry, none of these signs bode well for the future.
In the Western Hemisphere, there are barometers and benchmarks to measure the state of the game. Unfortunately, Asia does not have the statistical yardsticks to keep a check on how the game is performing. There are no solid facts to hang on to to ascertain if the game is in a growth mode or in a general state of decline. Many suspect that the latter is true of what is really happening in Asia.
We need solutions and the solutions that Asia needs have to be cutting edge and innovative in nature. To get a handle on the future of golf on this giant continent, the 2013 Asia Pacific Golf Summit will platform this topic for discussion. The Summit will be staged at the luxurious five-star Shangri-la Hotel Jakarta from November 5-7.
