(BASTROP, TX) – ColoVista Golf Club – managed by Billy Casper Golf (BCG), the largest domestic owner-operator of golf courses, country clubs and resorts – was named the No. 1 golf course by the Austin American-Statesman in the newspaper’s 2013 “Best of Bastrop County” contest.
Local businesses were nominated across numerous categories and voted on by more than 19,000 visitors to www.statesman.com.
The par-72, 6,596-yard public access golf course re-opened in July after a comprehensive renovation that included re-definition of tee areas and fairways; restoration of bunkers; re-grassing for enhanced playing surfaces; and new tee markers, signage and pin flags.
Prior to the course closing after damage from widespread forest fires a few years ago, ColoVista opened in 1997 to rave reviews from golfers. It also consistently ranked among the top 20 courses in Texas by Golfweek and other golf media, and was named “Best Course in the State” by the Houston Chronicle.
“We are honored to receive the Austin American-Statesman accolade,” says Ryan Bell, General Manager of ColoVista. “It shows all the hard work and renovations paid off and the club is once again an integral part of the community.”
Early this year, BCG was selected to provide turnkey management of ColoVista operations, golf course and property maintenance, stay-and-play cottages, membership sales, marketing and public relations, staffing and training, merchandising, restaurant and banquet activities, special events and tournaments, golf instruction and financial management.
Winding through the surrounding residential community amid majestic vistas, ColoVista presents golfers with challenging terrain, including subtle turns and treacherous optical illusions. Rolling fairways and well-protected, undulating greens and forgiving landing areas add to a variety of shot strategies.
The first nine holes are situated in the valley and gradually ascend to higher ground. The signature par-3, No. 15 features a 100-foot elevation change from tee to green, requiring golfers to be mindful of club selection. The view of the Colorado River from the raised tee box is jaw-dropping and starts a string of stunning finishing holes which rival all others in Texas.
Nestled among soaring pines and the banks of the Colorado River, ColoVista offers four communities and a wide array of lots and existing homes from several builders. Residences unobtrusively line many holes of the championship golf course.
