DALLAS – Columbia Country Club, an 18-hole private course in Columbia, Mo., operated by Eagle Golf was one of just 12 courses worldwide to receive 2013 Design Excellence Recognition from the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA).
Begun in 2012, the Design Excellence Recognition Program shines a light on the innovation and problem-solving skills required of today’s golf course designs, whether the project is a “small” bunker renovation or a full-scale 18-hole layout.
“These courses – along with their architects – are to be commended,” said ASGCA Vice President Lee Schmidt. “In each case, golf course owners, managers and superintendents faced challenges unique to them, including the landscape, environment or business situation. And, in each case, they met the challenges by working with ASGCA members, who serve clients around the world every day.”
The Columbia Country Club project was the result of a portion of the 1922-designed course being lost to outside development, forcing a rerouting and reconstruction of the back nine holes. Eagle Golf, the Baord of Governors, the architects and local government officials worked together to rebuild the back nine without loss of par, yardage or quality of golf. The streams on the land were also restored to improve water flow throughout the course.
“This is a well-deserved honor for the Columbia Country Club golf course and Jason Straka who was great to work with on such a large-scale reconstruction project,” said Kathryn Comfort, Senior Vice President of Private Clubs for Eagle Golf. “Jason’s hard work allows us to offer a higher quality golf experience today than before the renovation, and our members are thrilled with the results.”
Nominations for the honor were reviewed by a panel of golf industry leaders including representatives of the Club Managers Association of America, Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, Golf Course Builders Association of America and National Golf Course Owners Association.
