VACAVILLE, Calif. – The Northern California Section of the PGA is pleased to announce that Joe Dolby of Palo Alto Hills Golf & Country Club in Palo Alto, Calif. has garnered the 2013 NCPGA Assistant Apprentice of the Year Award. He was chosen for his leadership, strong moral character, promotion of the game among young people, and service to the Section.
After serving for the past five years on the Board of the Assistant Apprentice Division, Dolby became President and Chairman of the Tournament Committee for 2013. He provides leadership and guides decision making for the betterment of all the assistant golf professionals in the NCPGA Section. As part of his role, he participates in NCPGA Section Board Meetings as a liaison for the Division and stays informed about opportunities that would benefit his fellow assistant professionals and apprentices.
Dolby is a PGA Member, having completed the PGM 1.0 program in June 2010 after working as an apprentice for three years. He applies his experience to assist his fellow assistant professionals at Palo Alto Hills with their education.
At the club, he has a strong work ethic and is an active supporter of charitable organizations. For Patriot Golf Day, during the past two years he has organized a fun scoring format for members to participate in to raise money for the Folds of Honor foundation. YoungLife is a Christian youth ministry that Dolby has been involved with since high school. Last year he brought the South Peninsula YoungLife Golf Tournament to Palo Alto Hills and was involved on both sides of the planning process of this fundraising event.
Dolby also helps lead the Junior Golf Program at Palo Alto Hills Country Club, which has been growing in popularity over the past few years. In 2009, his first year at the club, the program included more than 80 children and grandchildren of members between the ages of 7-13. This year that number has ballooned to more than 120 children. Dolby is an instrumental contributor to its growth as he provides up to 10 hours of instruction per week to junior golf participants.
Dolby is not only an upcoming leader with in the NCPGA, he is also a strong competitor on the golf course. He won both the 2009 and 2011 NCPGA Assistant Apprentice Player of the Year awards by having the leading tournament year point standings in the Assistant Apprentice category.

Dolby is among 19 recipients of the NCPGA’s 2013 Annual Section Awards. Section awards are given to PGA Professionals and industry leaders who have excelled in the game and business of golf. The NCPGA will recognize its 2013 Annual Section Award winners on Sunday, December 8 at the NCPGA Special Awards Ceremony & President’s Dinner at Contra Costa Country Club in Pleasant Hill, Calif. This event, a highlight for the year, will be held the evening prior to the NCPGA Annual Meeting. There are more than 200 golf professionals and industry leaders expected to attend.
