Gaylord, MI – The Rick Smith/Jason Guss Golf Academy at Treetops, one of the top golf schools in the country, has had three of its instructors honored by Golf Digest. Rick Smith was ranked among the 50 Best Teachers in America and No. 1 in Michigan, while Jason Guss and Henry Young were ranked among the Top 10 instructors in the state.
The biennial review of Golf Digest’s 50 Best Teachers appears in the November 2013 issue. Golf Digest, which has been ranking the top teachers in the game since 2000, relied on 1200 leading golf instructors nationwide to determine the top 50 teachers and best in each state.
Rick Smith, ranked No. 20 on the prestigious list, works with PGA Tour players Sang Moon Bae, Rory Sabbatini, Jerry Kelly, Rocco Mediate, Brendan Steele, and Tim Petrovic. He has also worked with some of the greatest players in the game including Phil Mickelson, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Janzen, and Greg Norman, to name a few.
In 1990, while launching one of the premier golf resort destinations in the country, Treetops in northern Michigan, he opened the Rick Smith Golf Academy, which has been a nationally award winning golf school for 25 years. He also has golf schools in Rochester, Michigan, Niagara Falls, Canada, Bonita Springs, Florida, and Bolton, Massachusetts.
Working alongside Rick, long time instructors Henry Young and Jason Guss, were ranked No. 4 and No. 6 in the state of Michigan respectively. Young, a Duke University graduate, has been a member of the academy since it opened. He has been a Michigan Section Teacher of the Year and consistently a Top 10 teacher in Michigan by Golf Digest.
Guss, who is also the Michigan Section PGA Teacher of the Year in 2013, has become a consistent name in recent years with Golf Digest. He was recognized as one of the game’s “Best Young Teachers in 2010 and is also a regular contributor to Golf Digest.
Guss also works with the leading consumer golf publication on its annual “Hot List” issue where he analyzes new golf equipment, as well as The Golf Digest Clinic instructional DVD series.
The Rick Smith/Jason Guss Golf Academy offers lessons and programs to keep your golf game in shape during the winter months. The indoor winter training program, which costs $399, includes unlimited use of the facilities, Trackman, V1, indoor putting green, and two one-hour lessons. Individual private lessons can also be scheduled for $125.
