RICHARDSON, TX-The Back Creek Golf Club in Middleton, DE has discovered an additional benefit to adding the ezLocator software program, a unique green and pin management technology designed to help golf courses manage the placement of holes more efficiently.
“Since starting to use it in early October, the feedback has been positive,” said Buddy Reed, owner of the 18-hole public course that hosts 35,000 rounds a year. “The golfers love it. The superintendent loves it. Our regulars are saying that they see locations they’ve never seen before, declaring it’s like playing a new course each time.”
“We already see that it has helped with pace of play,” Reed continued. “We select locations closer to the cart paths and try not to get them too close to bunkers. This is useful on weekends and when we have outings. You don’t want six-hour rounds.”
Reed noted that using ezLocator has taken the guesswork out of where the pins are placed. “This eliminates possible bad ones,” he noted. “It’s also great for managing wear patterns.”
“It’s definitely a great tool that other public courses should consider,” Reed noted. “Jon (Schultz) and his staff are great to work with.”
When a club decides to utilize ezLocator, a staff member visits and identifies all the possible locations on every green using laser (3D scanning) and GPS technologies. Then each cuppable location based on slope and speed of the green is mapped and entered into a database of the ezLocator system. A trained employee at the course is provided with precise daily locations on where to place the new hole. That information is shared with the golf shop staff, allowing pin sheets to be printed in plenty of time for the players that day.
