VACAVILLE, Calif. – The Northern California Section of the PGA is pleased to announce that Jerry Stewart of the Monterey County Herald in Monterey, Calif., has been selected as the 2013 NCPGA Sports Media Person of the Year, an honor he won in 2001 as well. Stewart is being recognized for his support and coverage of local Golf Professionals, events, and charities.
Stewart writes the weekly “Notebook” column for the Monterey County Herald newspaper and website. The column covers the people, places and things that make up golf on the Monterey Peninsula. Wherever possible, he tries to connect any Northern California golfing event to his “local” notebook. Stewart covers local NCPGA Professionals who are competing, NCPGA tournament results, as well as NCPGA Foundations activities and events, including the popular fundraiser and pro-am tournament “The Langley – A Tribute to Legends.”
“Jerry has been instrumental in broadening the awareness among his readership about the high quality of PGA Professionals and instructors who work in the area’s golf facilities by sharing the results of their performance in Northern California and National tournaments,” said NCPGA Awards Chairman Ted Mattila, PGA. “He has also helped generate exposure to the NCPGA Foundation’s mission and the many local charities it supports.”
Stewart is among 19 recipients of the NCPGA’s 2013 Annual Section Awards. Section awards are given to PGA Professionals and industry leaders who have excelled in the game and business of golf. The NCPGA will recognize its 2013 Annual Section Award winners on Sunday, December 8 at the NCPGA Special Awards Ceremony & President’s Dinner at Contra Costa Country Club in Pleasant Hill, Calif. This event, a highlight for the year, will be held the evening prior to the NCPGA Annual Meeting. There are more than 200 golf professionals and industry leaders expected to attend. E-Z-Go Textron is a presenting partner and PGA Resort and Spa and the Northern California Golf Representatives Association is a supporting partner of the Awards Ceremony & Annual Meeting.
