VACAVILLE, Calif. – The Northern California Section of the PGA is pleased to announce that Greg Raleigh, PGA Head Golf Professional at Somersett Golf & Country Club in Reno, Nevada has garnered the 2013 NCPGA Horton Smith Award. Raleigh is being recognized for his contributions to professional education for PGA Professionals.
“I inspire others to promote the game of golf through leading by example and actively promoting golf in Northern Nevada,” said Raleigh.
Raleigh is a Board Member of the Northern California PGA Section’s Sierra Nevada Chapter (SNC). Through his duties as the Education Chair, his focus has been on creating informative seminars for Chapter Professionals by recruiting top quality speakers. These speakers are experts in everything from first aid to social networking. This past year he has also written several articles pertaining to the successes they have experienced at Somersett as a best practice to educate other golf business professionals facing growth challenges.
Due to his position in sales and marketing as the Membership Director at Somersett, he is responsible for outreach to the public and making them aware of the golf industry in the region.
Raleigh promotes golf in a wide range of civic and social groups in Northern Nevada including Rotary, Northern Nevada Chamber of Commerce, Prospectors, and the WIN and SKAL Travel & Tourism Board, where he is Vice President for the SKAL International Reno-Tahoe Chapter. I am also committed to supporting the organizations that promote golf in the area including 10 years as a volunteer for the Fred & Judy Alexander Foundation.
Raleigh is among 19 recipients of the NCPGA’s 2013 Annual Section Awards. Section awards are given to PGA Professionals and industry leaders who have excelled in the game and business of golf. The NCPGA will recognize its 2013 Annual Section Award winners on Sunday, December 8 at the NCPGA Special Awards Ceremony & President’s Dinner at Contra Costa Country Club in Pleasant Hill, Calif.
