Stafford, Va. – The Middle Atlantic PGA will have five golf professionals representing the Section on October 31-November 3, 2013 in the National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship presented by COBRA PUMA GOLF at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. This is the largest competition for PGA professionals and apprentices who are recognized as Assistant Golf Professionals at their facilities.
Leading the group will be Geoff Montross, PGA of International Country Club in Fairfax, Va., the 2013 MAPGA Assistant Champion. Joining Montross will be Ashley Grier of Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, Md., who won the 2013 MAPGA Women’s Player of the Year title; her second Player of the Year honor since joining the MAPGA in 2011. Making his second appearance in the PGA Assistant Championship is Yong Joo of Broad Run Golf Practice Facility in Bristow, Va. Pleasant Hughes, PGA of Chevy Chase Club in Chevy Chase, Md. and Todd Larson of Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville, Va. complete the Middle Atlantic collection of players.
For almost 40 years, the National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship presented by COBRA PUMA GOLF has produced outstanding PGA Professionals who have gone onto successful careers in teaching and administering the game, as well as competing at the highest level. Past competitors or champions include: Loren Roberts (Champion, 1979); Fred Funk (Champion, 1984); Rich Beem (third, 1998); Jeff Freeman (T-7, 1998); and Tim Thelen (Champion, 2009).
Since 1996, PGA assistant professionals and apprentices have competed at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla., for this National Championship.
