ANAHEIM, CA. – October 28, 2013 – The First Tee of Orange County, CA., a non-profit organization formed to impact the young people of Orange County, proudly announced that the September 30 Tijeras Creek Golf Club fundraising golf tournament was deemed a huge success for the program and the Orange County community.
According to The First Tee of Orange County President Tim Casey, “We can’t thank Rick Convertini and his team at the Tijeras Creek Golf Club enough. They put together a first class event that included a full field of golfers, volunteers, silent auction items, great food and fun. Their efforts raised a significant amount of money which will enable us to deliver the First Tee program to a growing number of Orange County youth.”
The fundraising golf tournament hosted by the Tijeras Creek Golf Club demonstrates the overwhelming and growing support The First Tee of Orange County has received. The community clearly understands how The First Tee positively affects its young people and an independent study confirmed this.
An independent research study confirmed that youth involved in The First Tee Life Skills Experience learn and use life skills on the golf course and transfer these skills to other areas of their life. In fact, 100% of The First Tee participants interviewed said they transferred life skills learned at The First Tee to school. Seventy-eight percent are transferring skills such as decision making, setting goals and managing their emotions from the golf course to other areas of their lives including situations with friends, family, after school activities and jobs. The study also revealed The First Tee Life Skills Experience’s ability to impart core values on youth. After participating in The First Tee for three years, 73% reported high confidence in their academic ability and 82% felt confident in their social abilities with peers.
“It was our pleasure to hold The First Tee of Orange County fundraising tournament. Our team and I know that the time it took to raise money for the program is an investment in our community. I am happy to have helped,” commented Tijeras Creek General Manager Rick Convertini.
Tijeras Creek features a beautiful Ted Robinson Sr. design with shimmering water features and a famed back nine with breathtaking scenery and awe-inspiring elevation changes that wind through old growth sycamores, oaks and native chaparral.
The First Tee of Orange County impacts the young people in the Orange County community through its life skills education and character training. Each of these participants will be introduced to the lifelong sport of golf while learning skills such as goal-setting, managing emotions and resolving conflicts. The program emphasizes Nine Core Values™ (confidence, responsibility, respect, honesty, judgment, perseverance, sportsmanship, integrity, and courtesy) at every level of instruction.
