Truax reaches Sweet 16 at Re/Max World Long Drive Championship; Beasley and Robinson make top 64
November 1, 2013 Birmingham, Ala. – Tyler Beasley didn’t play golf before he enrolled at Golf Academy of America’s Orlando golf college five years ago. Today, he’s a scratch player teaching the game to others and dazzling audiences by hitting a ball more than 400 yards in exhibitions throughout Florida.
“I didn’t know anything before I went to Golf Academy of America,” said Beasley. “That’s where I developed my swing. I shot 107 when I started there; I was a 2-handicap when I left.”
Beasley was one of three Golf Academy of America graduates who gave outstanding performances in the 2013 Re/Max World Long Drive Championship.
Brennen Truax, who owns several pro titles and has driven a ball 424 yards, was seen on Golf Channel during his run to the final 16 in Mesquite, Nev., before he was eliminated. Beasley and Golf Academy of America classmate Justin Robinson both advanced through two stages of qualifying and finished in the top 64.
The finals of the competition were televised live Oct. 30 on Golf Channel.
Beasley and Robinson were classmates and baseball teammates at Lemon Bay High School in Englewood, Fla., and later roommates while attending Golf Academy of America’s Orlando campus.
“Tyler and Justin improved their swings while they were here to the point it was unbelievable,” Golf Academy of America Orlando college director Brad Turner said.
Truax, Beasley and Robinson used knowledge and skills learned at Golf Academy of America to successfully enter the golf industry. Truax works for shaft maker Aldila in Phoenix; Beasley works at Rotonda Golf & Country Club; and Robinson is a course superintendent at Oyster Creek Golf Club.
