(VIENNA, VA) – Billy Casper Golf (BCG) – the largest domestic owner-operator of golf courses, country clubs and resorts – has been selected by the City of Tamarac to manage the 36-hole Colony West Country Club in Tamarac, FL, just northwest of Fort Lauderdale.
The engagement marks BCG’s second entry into the South Florida market, along with Eastpointe Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens.
Closed since late August, BCG will implement an aggressive golf-course maintenance schedule toward a projected re-opening of the daily-fee Colony West in December. The City’s goal is to restore the Championship Course to its glory when it ranked as one Golf Digest’s “75 Best Public Courses in America” and make improvements to the Glades Course executive layout.
In addition, BCG will provide turnkey management of Colony West operations, marketing and sales, staffing and training, merchandising, restaurant activities, special events and financial management.
BCG will enact its proprietary “BCGreen” initiative at Colony West to conserve, protect and enhance the environment, while also enrolling the course in the Audubon International “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” program. This designation increases efficiencies in maintenance, energy, water, pesticides, fertilizer, equipment wear and labor.
“Billy Casper Golf is the best choice to move Colony West forward,” says Michael Cernech, Tamarac City Manager. “Its extensive experience with these types of projects and powerful marketing platform will re-establish Colony West as a favorite among residents and visitors.”
“Well known as one of the best public courses in South Florida, Colony West is poised for resurgence under Billy Casper Golf management,” says Peter Hill, Chairman and CEO of BCG. “Golfers will realize the difference in the short- and long-term.”
Opened in 1971, Colony West boasts the par 71, 7,312-yard Championship Course and the executive-length, par 65, 4,207-yard Glades Course. Both were designed by Robert Von Hagge and Bruce Devlin, architects of TPC Woodlands (PGA TOUR Shell Houston Open), Key Biscayne Golf Club (Champions TOUR Royal Caribbean Classic) and Boca West Country Club.
The Championship Course offers golfers one of the most stimulating courses in South Florida. Strategic bunkering protects small, well-maincured greens, requiring players to think their way around the course to take advantage of scoring opportunities.
The Glades Course is widely recognized as one of the finest executive layouts in the area and ideal for those new to the game.
The clubhouse includes a fully-stocked pro shop and grill room dining, making Colony West a natural setting for corporate outings, meetings and other social events.
