Stafford, Va. – The Middle Atlantic PGA held their annual fall membership meeting on Monday, November 4th and during this meeting, five MAPGA professionals were elected to new positions on the Section’s Board of Directors. Nearly 200 MAPGA Professionals were in attendance for the meeting which was held at the Fredericksburg Expo Center in Fredericksburg, Va.
John Madden, PGA Head Professional at River Bend Golf and Country Club in Great Falls, Va. was elected to lead the Section as President for the next two years. Madden takes the reins from John Malinowski, PGA Head Professional at Ocean Pines Golf and Country Club in Berlin, Md. who will serve as Honorary President. Supporting as Vice President will be Matthew Schulze, PGA Head Professional at Richmond Country Club in Midlothian, Va. J.P. Lunn, PGA General Manager of Holly Hills Country Club in Ijamsville, Md., will serve in the final officer position as Secretary.
Two additional board positions – Director at Large and A-8 Director – were elected at the meeting and nominations for those positions came from the floor. In the Director at Large race, three candidates were nominated – Jon Magarace, PGA Head Professional at Heritage Harbour Golf Club (Annapolis, Md.); John Lyberger, PGA Director of Golf at Congressional Country Club (Bethesda, Md.); and Gary Haught, PGA General Manager at Blue Hills Golf Course (Roanoke, Va.). After the first round of voting, Haught was eliminated from the race, yet Lyberger and Magarace were close enough to have a second vote. Winning the majority in the second vote was Lyberger who has held the MAPGA’s Central Chapter Director at Large position for the last three years.
Brice Busse, PGA Assistant Professional at Woodmont Country Club (Rockville, Md.), was elected as the Section’s A-8 Director, a voice for all assistant and apprentice golf professionals in the MAPGA. Busse has been a member of the MAPGA’s Assistant Professional Association since 2011 and is the reigning APA Player of the Year.
The MAPGA Board of Directors volunteer their time to serve the Section. They manage a staff of six full-time employees and their goal is to lead by upholding the Section’s mission of promoting growth in the game of golf, providing ongoing education and professional development for members, and actively improving employment opportunities for PGA Professionals across the region.
