New feature wraps up GCSAA Education Conference at Golf Industry Show
Bill Engvall, one of the world’s top and busiest comedians, will provide a fun and fitting conclusion to the GCSAA Education Conference at the 2014 Golf Industry Show as he headlines the Closing Celebration at the Orange County Convention Center, Thursday, Feb. 6, at 5 p.m.
The event is presented in partnership with John Deere and is new to the schedule as show partners sought to shorten the week of activities, and GCSAA leaders looked for a means to end the week with an opportunity for members to be entertained and network.
“We are excited to have an event that will cap a great week in Orlando,” GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans said. “There is nobody on the entertainment circuit with more momentum than Bill Engvall, and we could not be more appreciative of John Deere for helping to make the night a reality. I am positive our members will enjoy themselves and see it as a fitting conclusion to their stay in Orlando.”
Engvall, who first gained wide acclaim as one of the leads of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, has a long and varied list of accomplishments to his credit. He is currently performing on ABC television’s “Dancing with the Stars” and is the voice of “Bill” on the show “Bounty Hunters” on CMT. He has starred in a self-titled sitcom on TBS, and hosted numerous TV shows. The Blue Collar Comedy Tour’s “One for the Road” soundtrack was nominated for a Grammy Award.
Originally from Galveston, Texas, Engvall began as a disc jockey dabbling in stand-up comedy at various Dallas nightclubs. He sought to establish himself in television by moving to Los Angeles and soon found himself working with such stars as Rosie O’Donnell, David Letterman, Delta Burke and Jeff Foxworthy. His first comedy album – “Here’s Your Sign” – went platinum and was No. 1 on the Billboard Comedy Chart for 15 consecutive weeks in 1996. He has also written several books.
In addition to Engvall’s keynote performance, the new GCSAA Board of Directors will be introduced as will the winners of the GCSAA Collegiate Turf Bowl, presented in partnership with John Deere Golf.
“We are excited to participate with GCSAA in creating this new closing event for the Education Conference,” said John Deere Golf North American Sales Manager Steve Vincent. “Not only will this event provide entertainment and networking, it will recognize GCSAA leaders and the students who participated in an event that’s near and dear to us – the GCSAA Turf Bowl. I encourage everyone who will be in Orlando to attend. It will be a great evening.”
