(LONDONDERRY, NH) – Danish company ECCO – a leading global manufacturer of innovative footwear – confirms that Staff Player Wu Ashun wore its luxurious World Class GTX waterproof golf shoes en route to capturing the Heiwa PGM Championship this past weekend, marking him as the first Chinese player to win two Japan Golf Tour titles.
Showcasing the ECCO logo on his shirt collar, Wu finished at 11-under par 273 at Miho Golf Club. One of China’s leading golfers, the 28 year old won his first event in Japan at the 2012 Toshin Golf Tournament and a month ago finished third at that same event.
“I feel very good,” said Wu. “The wind is very big and everyone had to play very tough golf.”
Wu’s latest victory earned him a Ìâå´40 million payday. In line with his focus on social responsibility, he promptly donated all his winnings to the Chinese sports organization that helped him along the road to his professional success.
“Wu played really strong golf all week and put himself in a great position heading into the final round,” says Jesper Thuen, Global Sponsorship, PR & Event Manager – ECCO Golf. “He really battled today in tough conditions and showed the true heart of a champion to earn the title against a very strong field.”
Looking ahead to the remainder of 2013, Wu has a full schedule that will see him represent China in the World Cup this November in Melbourne, Australia, and join the Asia team in December as it competes against Europe in the Royal Trophy.
In addition to Wu, the ECCO men’s golf collection is worn in competition by scores of international Tour stars, including Fred Couples, Graeme McDowell, Thomas Bjørn, Marcel Siem, Thongchai Jaidee, Stuart Appleby, Andreas Hartø, JB Hansen and many others.
