Historic Club Features Classic-Style Golf Course and Family-Oriented Environment
Scottsdale, Ariz. (November 15, 2013) – Troon, ® the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing is pleased to announce it has been selected to manage Columbus Country Club, a private, family-oriented golf club, located in Columbus, Ohio.
Rich in history and tradition that dates back to 1903, Columbus Country Club is central Ohio’s oldest and most established golf club. Home to one of the game’s most notable tournaments, Columbus Country Club hosted the 1964 PGA Championship won by Bobby Nichols. While best known for its Donald Ross designed championship golf course, the club also boasts a nine-hole executive course along with eight tennis courts, large swimming pool, spacious clubhouse and a diverse entertainment calendar.
“Columbus Country Club is an exceptional private facility with an outstanding reputation,” stated Jim McLaughlin, senior vice president, Troon Privé Operations. “We are honored to have been selected by them and are confident that our management practices will contribute positively to the experience at this historic club.”
The course, originally built in 1907 and then redesigned by Donald Ross nine years later, has been updated over the years to maintain its modern appeal while preserving the characteristics of its original inspired design. The beautiful 6,968-yard par 72 course with its tree-lined fairways and challenging greens is truly a source of pride for the club and its staff. Columbus County Club has a long history of hosting notable golf events. Along with the PGA Championship, the club has also hosted the Columbus Invitational twice and the Ohio Golf Association State Amateur four times.
“We are excited about our relationship with the Troon Privé organization, they have many resources to support our dedicated staff, and our wonderful facilities in the pursuit of the best member experience in Central Ohio,” stated club president Tom Ewing.
The par-three course is the ideal location for families and is responsible for introducing countless youngsters to the game since opening in 1965. Members have also found the short course to be the ideal venue for a quick round or fine tuning one’s short game. Columbus Country Club also showcases the area’s best practice facility, featuring a large hitting area with five target bent-grass greens, wide chipping green with elevation, and deep sand bunkers.
