ANAHEIM, CA. – November 25, 2013 – The First Tee of Orange County, CA., a non-profit organization formed to impact the young people of Orange County, announced today that the program is in need of volunteers.
According to The First Tee of Orange County President Tim Casey, “Our program relies heavily on help from the community. Currently we are seeking out volunteer coaches that would assist with the upcoming winter session but we do always need mentors and people to help with administrative duties.”

To download a volunteer application, please click on the “read more” link found on the home page and beneath the heading. We need Volunteer Coaches for the WINTER Session. An application can also be mailed by contacting the program director Teal Guion at 714-833-8221.
Online training is required as well as participation in the volunteer training session scheduled for Friday, December 6, 2013 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the Islands Golf Center located at 14893 E. Ball Road in the city of Anaheim. To protect the kids, a background check is also a prerequisite.
The winter session begins on January 13, 2014 and will continue for nine weeks.
“We also encourage PGA and LPGA Professionals to get involved. It is a great way to give back to the community as well as acquire needed services hours,” added Casey.
An independent research study confirmed that youth involved in The First Tee Life Skills Experience learn and use life skills on the golf course and transfer these skills to other areas of their life. In fact, 100% of The First Tee participants interviewed said they transferred life skills learned at The First Tee to school. Seventy-eight percent are transferring skills such as decision making, setting goals and managing their emotions from the golf course to other areas of their lives including situations with friends, family, after school activities and jobs. The study also revealed The First Tee Life Skills Experience’s ability to impart core values on youth. After participating in The First Tee for three years, 73% reported high confidence in their academic ability and 82% felt confident in their social abilities with peers.
The First Tee of Orange County impacts the young people in the Orange County community through its life skills education and character training. Each of these participants will be introduced to the lifelong sport of golf while learning skills such as goal-setting, managing emotions and resolving conflicts. The program emphasizes Nine Core Values™ (confidence, responsibility, respect, honesty, judgment, perseverance, sportsmanship, integrity, and courtesy) at every level of instruction.
