As an extension of the successful Golf in Schools program in Paterson, NJGF teams up with Father English Community Center and Montclair State University to provide additional golf instruction for elementary school boys and girls, ages 8-10
PISCATAWAY, N.J., December 3, 2013…The New Jersey Golf Foundation (NJGF), the charitable arm of the New Jersey Section, PGA of America (NJPGA), today announced a new winter season golf player development program for boys and girls from Paterson. Created to support the popular Golf In Schools program in Paterson, NJGF has teamed up with the Father English Community Center and Montclair State University (MSU) to offer winter golf programming for elementary school kids, via a six-week after-school golf program.
Beginning in December and concluding in January, the NJGF will be providing golf instruction to a group of children, ages 8-10, at Father English Community Center in Paterson. The program includes six, one-hour sessions from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. on the following dates: December 4, December 11, December 18, January 8, January 15 and January 22. Most of the participating children have been introduced to golf through the NJGF’s thriving Golf In Schools program.
Golf In Schools is an initiative that incorporates the sport into the physical education curriculum at elementary and middle schools, under the guidance of PGA Professionals. More, than 110,000 children (K-8th grade) at more than 200 schools in New Jersey are being introduced to the game of golf in gym class. In Paterson alone, golf is a part of the physical education curriculum at all 36 elementary schools, impacting more than 16,000 boys and girls.
“One of our core responsibilities is to provide access to the game of golf for boys and girls from all backgrounds, and this partnership provides another opportunity for kids from Paterson to experience the game of golf in a welcoming environment and under the guidance of PGA Professionals,” said Chris Hunt, Executive Director, NJGF.
PGA Professionals will lead the instruction, while interns and mentors from the MSU Golf Club and MSU Hockey Club will be on-site to provide additional support. Throughout the winter, the NJPGA/NJGF will continually work with the MSU Golf Club to expand on golf-related instruction, nutrition and fitness.
In related news, the NJGF has also partnered with Floyd Hall Enterprises to host a charity hockey game at the Floyd Hall Arena in Little Falls, N.J., in the fall of 2014. This event will benefit the Golf In Schools initiatives in Clifton and Paterson.
