Volvik staff player Pornanong Phatlum won the Dubai Ladies Masters on the Ladies European Tour Saturday, hitting a 54-degree wedge over the lake guarding the green to two feet on the par-5 final hole for a birdie and a one-stroke victory over the world’s #3 ranked player. Phatlum birdied four out of the last six holes to take the championship.
“I didn’t think about who I was going to win against,” said Phatlum. “Stacy Lewis is definitely a big name. You cannot deny that, but I didn’t think about beating Stacy Lewis. I just thought of my game; I simply won by myself, with my game.”
Phatlum is the first Thai player to win the season-ending Ladies European Tour event in Dubai. She also won the Hero Women’s Open on the Ladies European Tour last year with a Volvik golf ball. She plays a Pink Vista 4-piece golf ball.
“This win really increases my confidence and inspires me to move forward from this season,” said Phatlum, who celebrated her 24th birthday the first day of the tournament. “Now that I have this trophy, I’m looking forward to having more victories.”
It was the second week in a row that a player using a Volvik golf ball won on the LET. Volvik staff player Thidapa Sunawannapura won the Hero Women’s Indian Open on the LET Nov. 30 by three shots at the Delhi Golf Club with a new prototype Volvik golf ball.
Phatlum earned four Top 5’s and seven Top 10’s this year, earning over $600,000. Her 3rd place finish in Naples, FL secured her a Top 25 spot on the official LPGA Tour money list at #23. It is far and away a career year for Phatlum on the LPGA Tour, her first full year playing Volvik golf balls.
“I have learned how to stay focused through meditation which I practice with my brother, who caddies for me,” said Phatlum, who received a check for $103,050 for her victory.”When I’m on the course I just play my game and I didn’t think about the win, or like, I don’t want to pressure myself.”
Since 2012, players using Volvik’s ultra high-performance color golf balls have earned over $5 million on the LPGA Tour, Web.com Tour, Ladies European Tour and Symetra Tour with eight victories and 58 Top 10 finishes.
Six different players using Volvik golf balls held the lead of an LPGA or LET round 10 different times this season. Company officials estimate that Volvik has received over $2.5 million in television airtime exposure from their players performing on the tour telecasts.
