(TAMARAC, FL) – Colony West Country Club – owned by the City of Tamarac and managed by Billy Casper Golf (BCG) – is scheduled to re-open to preview the course to the public on Sunday, December 15 with special rates on greens and cart fees and a limited food and beverage operation.
Closed since late August, BCG’s planned golf-course maintenance schedule will restore the daily-fee Colony West’s Championship Course to its glory when it ranked as one Golf Digest’s “75 Best Public Courses in America” and engineer improvements to the Glades Course executive layout. Colony West will host a more formal grand re-opening in January 2014.
“The City of Tamarac has worked closely with Billy Casper Golf to quickly re-open Colony West for the renewed enjoyment of residents and guests,” says Michael Cernech, Tamarac City Manager. “The opportunities are endless and we are excited to provide a quality product for the community.”
“This soft-opening of both courses is important for welcoming back our loyal golfers,” says Matt Wilson, Regional General Manager for Billy Casper Golf. “Over the coming weeks and months, we are laser focused to bring course conditions to a very high level.”
Selected to manage Colony West in October, BCG is overseeing operations, marketing and sales, staffing and training, merchandising, restaurant activities, special events and financial management.
BCG has enacted its proprietary “BCGreen” initiative at Colony West to conserve, protect and enhance the environment, while also enrolling the course in the Audubon International “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” program. This designation increases efficiencies in maintenance, energy, water, pesticides, fertilizer, equipment wear and labor.
Opened in 1971, Colony West boasts the par 71, 7,312-yard Championship Course and the executive-length, par 65, 4,207-yard Glades Course. Both were designed by Robert Von Hagge and Bruce Devlin, architects of TPC Woodlands (PGA TOUR Shell Houston Open), Key Biscayne Golf Club (Champions TOUR Royal Caribbean Classic) and Boca West Country Club.
The Championship Course offers golfers one of the most stimulating courses in South Florida. Strategic bunkering protects small, well-manicured greens, requiring players to think their way around the course to take advantage of scoring opportunities.
The Glades Course is widely recognized as one of the finest executive layouts in the area and ideal for those new to the game.
The clubhouse will include a fully-stocked pro shop and grill room dining, making Colony West a natural setting for corporate outings, meetings and other social events.
