American FootGolf League to stage tournament April 12-13
(VIENNA, VA) – General’s Ridge Golf Course and Lake Ridge Golf Course – owned by Prince William County Department of Park and Recreation and managed by Billy Casper Golf (BCG) – will introduce FootGolf, a hybrid of golf and soccer, at its courses in mid-March.
BCG will be at the NBC4 Health & Fitness Expo at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, January 11 and Sunday January 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to showcase FootGolf. In Booth 1035, adjacent to the Soccer Challenge Area sponsored by D.C. United, BCG will have additional information as well as a demonstration of the sport.
Created in conjunction with the American FootGolf League (AFGL) and the first of its kind in the Washington, D.C.-area, FootGolf at General’s Ridge and Lake Ridge golf courses will be played over nine or 18 holes in length. Each hole is assigned “par” and players tee off using a soccer ball, strategically kicking it until they get it to drop into the cup. The holes are cut in the rough to avoid damage to fairways and greens. AFGL provides a rule book for players to follow.
The FootGolf courses at both General’s Ridge and Lake Ridge are open for play year-round (weather permitting) during twilight hours through the core golf season.
AFGL will host the Washington, D.C. FootGolf Open, April 12-13, at Lake Ridge on Saturday and General’s Ridge on Sunday. Registration is $119 for individuals and includes practice, two tournament rounds, cart fee, hat, gift bag, champagne toast and banquet.
“Billy Casper Golf has a history of innovation in the game of golf,” says Roberto Balestrini, Founder of AFGL. “General’s Ridge and Lake Ridge provide the perfect inaugural venue for FootGolf in the Washington, D.C.-area.”
“The reaction to FootGolf has been amazing,” says Tracy Hannigan, Recreation Services Director for Prince William County Department of Parks and Recreation. “Our regular golfers and sports enthusiasts alike can’t wait until the spring to try their hand at this creative new sport.”

One of the most challenging courses in the Washington, D.C. region, General’s Ridge is an 18-hole, par-72, 6,651-yard championship course in Manassas Park, VA and named for the area’s rich Civil War history. Nestled among a forest of oak, beech and poplar trees, the layout rambles over rolling hills and spectacular scenery, grabbing golfers’ attentions form the first tee. Described as North Carolina mountain style, General’s Ridge is a secluded retreat and home to local hawks, deer, fox and other wildlife.
A driving range with 10 covered hitting bays, large putting and chipping green, as well as instruction, ensure golfers hone their games between rounds. Golfers take their post-round tales to the clubhouse and its restaurant serving lunch and dinner daily. A fully-stocked pro shop satisfies golfers’ apparel and gear needs. General’s Ridge is popular for business and social functions.
