(TAMARAC, FL) – Colony West Golf Club – owned by the City of Tamarac and managed by Billy Casper Golf (BCG) – will host a re-opening celebration and golf tournament on Saturday, January 18.
The tournament is open to the public and kicks-off at 8:30 a.m. on the Championship Course with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony with local dignitaries is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. The $30 fee includes greens and cart fee, continental breakfast, on-course contests and a donation to benefit the Parks & Recreation of Tamarac Foundation. The Glades Course will be open for regular play with a rate of $25 for greens and cart fee.
Closed since late August, Colony West had a soft re-opening in mid-December. BCG’s aggressive golf-course maintenance program will restore the daily-fee Colony West’s Championship Course to its glory, when it ranked among Golf Digest’s “75 Best Public Courses in America.” Improvements are also being made to the Glades Course executive layout.
“We are ecstatic to officially welcome back our loyal golfers,” says Tony Harris, General Manager of Colony West. “The grand re-opening event will be a wonderful way for the community to re-connect with Colony West and re-discover the wonderful attributes of this club.”
Selected to manage Colony West in October, BCG is directing turf management, operations, marketing and sales, staffing and training, merchandising, restaurant activities, special events and financial management.
BCG has enacted its proprietary “BCGreen” initiative at Colony West to conserve, protect and enhance the environment, while also enrolling the course in the Audubon International “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” program. This designation increases efficiencies in maintenance, energy, water, pesticides, fertilizer, equipment wear and labor.
Opened in 1971, Colony West boasts the par 71, 7,312-yard Championship Course and the executive-length, par 65, 4,207-yard Glades Course. Both were designed by Robert Von Hagge and Bruce Devlin, architects of TPC Woodlands (PGA TOUR Shell Houston Open), Key Biscayne Golf Club (Champions TOUR Royal Caribbean Classic) and Boca West Country Club.
The Championship Course offers golfers one of the most stimulating courses in South Florida. Strategic bunkering protects small, well-manicured greens, requiring players to think their way around the course to take advantage of scoring opportunities.
The Glades Course is widely recognized as one of the finest executive layouts in the area and ideal for those new to the game.
The clubhouse includes a fully-stocked pro shop and grill room dining, making Colony West a natural setting for corporate outings, meetings and other social events.
