Pellucid Corp., the recognized golf industry thought leader for key issue identification, intelligent analysis and actionable insight, recently and successfully conducted two critical surveys for the City of Buffalo and the Olmstead Parks Conservancy in New York; and the Golf Association of Michigan.
“The City of Buffalo along with the Olmstead Parks Conservancy have plans to add a new park that could include a golf course, one that would replace another close by”, explains Pellucid survey coordinator Harvey Silverman. “We surveyed both golfers and non-golfers within a 20-minute drive time of the proposed new facility and learned that golfers playing the current facility would likely quit rather than play elsewhere if their home course was shuttered without a nearby course being built. We also learned that 25% of non-golfers in the area would be interested in starting the game if the new facility included a learning and practice center. And, we learned from all respondents what else they’d like to see included in the new park. The City and Conservancy now have objective citizen feedback from which better decisions will be made.”
“The Golf Association of Michigan (GAM) is facing what we think most if not all state and regional golf associations are facing – stagnant or declining membership”, says Silverman. “This was the third golf association we’d done so we had a pretty good idea of what to ask and how to ask it. We received over 4300 responses from non-members and former GAM members, fairly well balanced across the state. We measured awareness, value of current membership benefits, how and where marketing dollars might best be spent, and what new programs and/or benefits might best attract new members. We saw many similarities in the responses giving the GAM the idea of calling the other associations to learn what steps they took. Interestingly, our cross-tabbing of responses indicated most response differences were due to age, and that younger golfers present a fertile group of non-members interested in joining given the right value proposition.”
