The Asia Pacific Chapter of the Club Managers Association of America has announced the appointment of Sylvan Braberry as the chapter’s new chief executive officer.
Braberry is a veteran club management professional who has served as head of club management committees and also served in top management club positions.
Until recently, he was the general manager of the Singapore Island Country Club, widely regarded as the largest golf club in Southeast Asia and reportedly the richest golf club in the world.
“I am delighted with this appointment as I feel that I can bring a lot to the table especially in the area of spearheading education and training programmes to help sharpen the level of professionalism in clubs in the Asia Pacific region,” said Braberry.
Commenting on the appointment, James B. Singerling, chief executive officer of the CMAA said, “Great choice and please thank Sylvan for committing to this greater cause. It takes Vision and Leadership. Not easy to find”.
According to the president of the Asia Pacific Chapter of the CMAA, Mike Sebastian, “The engagement of Sylvan is designed to provide the right blend of experience, leadership and commitment to grow the club management industry in the region.” He continued, “The new CEO has had many years working at senior management levels and is a highly motivated individual who understands the importance of maintaining high standards and keeping the club experience relevant in a changing business environment.”
Another appointment to the Asia Pacific Chapter is Lawrence Young, director of education and programme facilitation.
“Young will work very closely with the CEO to implement the CMAA’s Business Management Institute’s certification programme and the Club Asia Symposia calendar of events,” said Sebastian.
