No. 1 played driver on the PGA Tour receives unprecedented 5-stars
in every ranking category
CARLSBAD, CALIF. (January 22, 2014) – TaylorMade Golf Company, renowned for innovations in performance-enhancing golf equipment, today announced it was the recipient of nine gold medals in the 2014 Golf Digest “Hotlist” equipment issue.
The most notable of those gold medals was SLDR, which made Hotlist history by becoming the first driver to earn five stars in the categories of: Performance, Innovation, Look/Sound/Feel and Demand.
“The driver results of the 2014 Golf Digest Hotlist test are consistent with what we have seen over the last five months with not only PGA Tour players, but golfers of all skill levels,” said Sean Toulon, TaylorMade Executive Vice President. “Because of the low and forward center of gravity placement, golfers are adding loft to their SLDR drivers to achieve massive distance gains. When you can hit your tee shot higher with little spin, the ball is going to carry longer and hit the ground running. I truly believe we are entering another replacement cycle for drivers because those without low and forward CG placement simply won’t perform as well.”
SLDR was first played on the PGA Tour in July 2013. Since then, it has quickly emerged as the No. 1 driver model on the PGA Tour. Last week at the Humana Challenge, 40 PGA Tour players put the driver in play. Click here to learn more about SLDR.
Also receiving high praise was the company’s SpeedBlade irons, which earned the highest marks in the game improvement iron category.
SpeedBlade, which received 19/20 stars, is radically differently than any other iron in terms of look, speed, launch, spin, feel, sound. Visually, SpeedBlade irons are striking, combining a two-tone, satin nickel chrome plating with dark smoke satin ion plating (IP). The key performance feature that separates SpeedBlade from the pack is the Speed Pocket, a handle-bar shaped slot in the sole of the 3-7 irons that enables a large area of the face to flex and rebound at impact, resulting in faster ball speed, higher launch and better feel.
