Wall Street trader invests in innovative after-school golf program to enrich youth.
Westchester County, NY – Former Wall Street investor and trader Sean Rivera has joined one of the nation’s leading youth sports companies by acquiring a TGA Premier Junior Golf franchise.
Rivera’s franchise, located in Southern Westchester County, is now one of five TGA franchises in the New York City area, which together serve more than 300 schools by specializing in after-school golf programs for youth.
“Sean brings a wealth of business knowledge and passion for youth sports, which will allow him to develop a self-sustaining business, enrich the lives of youth, and grow the game of golf,” Steve Tanner, chief operating officer of TGA, said. “The New York City area is one of the top golf markets in the country, and to see our model continue to grow in this region is very exciting.”
For 18 years Rivera worked on Wall Street as an equity derivative trader with Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse and most recently was employed as an equity derivative broker at FGC Securities. Rivera has also diversified his business holdings to include income-producing real estate properties.
Rivera was attracted to the TGA franchise model as an investment and new business opportunity because the programs are involved with schools and impact youth. His three young children, who are avid golf and tennis players, served as his inspiration to invest in TGA.
“I have been coaching my young kids in golf, tennis, and soccer for many years and thought the idea of a successful business where you work with and coach youth would be very exciting and rewarding,” Rivera said. “I am looking forward to being a part of TGA’s fast growing programs, which are having a major impact on youth in the greater New York area.”
TGA of South Westchester is already impacting youth in elementary and middle schools in the towns of Pelham, Scarsdale, New Rochelle, Rye, Larchmont, Hastings on Hudson, and White Plains school districts. Expansion is planned in Harrison, Mamaroneck, Bronxville and Purchase.
TGA’s business model also includes transitioning students and families from schools to local partner golf courses through camps and parent-child events, which in turn helps creates new golfers and generate customers for those courses.
