SAN JOSE, Calif. (Feb. 11, 2014) – CordeValle Golf Club has announced that club member Carol Kaufman has been appointed to serve as general chairman for the 2016 U.S. Women’s Open Championship, to be contested July 7-10. The championship is conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA).
Kaufman is the executive vice president and chief administrative officer for The Cooper Companies, Inc. (NYSE:COO), a medical device company based in Pleasanton, Calif., and a director of Insperity, a Houston-based provider of human resources solutions. She is a passionate golfer with a USGA Handicap Index® of 14 and has played golf around the world. Besides CordeValle, Kaufman is a member at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, The Renaissance Club in Scotland and other clubs in Scotland.
Having been named to the list of “Most Influential Women in Business in the Bay Area” by the San Francisco Business Times, Kaufman is dedicated to serving others through golf. She served as a director of The Olympic Club Foundation for many years and is a member of the board of directors for both The First Tee of San Francisco and the Bay Area Sports Hall Of Fame.

A native of Newark, N.J., Kaufman is a graduate of Boston University and completed her post-graduate studies in accounting at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. Kaufman currently lives in San Mateo, Calif.
Considered the world’s premier women’s golf championship, the U.S. Women’s Open is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA. It is open to professional female golfers and amateur females with a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 4.4. The championship was first conducted in 1946 and boasts an impressive list of winners, including Babe Didrikson Zaharias, Betsy Rawls, Mickey Wright, Hollis Stacy, Amy Alcott, Meg Mallon, Annika Sorenstam, Se Ri Pak, Juli Inkster, Inbee Park, Cristie Kerr and Paula Creamer.
