Stafford, Va. – Mid-Atlantic based businesses HITT Contracting and Lindsay Automotive Group have been selected by the Middle Atlantic PGA as the 2014 David Wortman Citizens of the Year. This award bestows special recognition on an outstanding amateur or supporter, recognized by the MAPGA and the business community as a leader in his/her field, whose contributions to golf in the mid-Atlantic region include the promotion of the game, the Middle Atlantic Section, and its PGA Professionals, as well as overall support of MAPGA programs and golf throughout the region. This award is named in honor of the late David Wortman, Esq., Section Legal Counsel from 1971-1988 and honorary member of the MAPGA. Representatives from HITT and Lindsay will be recognized in front of the membership at the MAPGA Hall of Fame and Awards banquet to be held on March 8, 2014 at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Va.
HITT Contracting and Lindsay Automotive Group have been presenting sponsors of the MAPGA Junior Tour since 2007. With their support, the MAPGA has expanded the Junior Tour to all areas of the Middle Atlantic Section and attracted over 550 members each year. They are devoted to many philanthropic efforts across the region and much of their partnership with the MAPGA is due to the relationship between Burning Tree Club’s PGA Director of Golf Charlie Briggs and the leadership at HITT and Lindsay.
HITT CONTRACTING
With modest beginnings in 1937 as a small family business run from the dining room table of Warren and Myrtle Hitt, HITT Contracting Inc. has grown to be among the top 100 largest general contractors in the United States. From a small family house in Arlington, Virginia to offices in Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Baltimore, South Florida and Charleston, HITT’s steady growth over the past 75 years can be attributed to the longstanding relationships they develop with their clients.
HITT’s Co-President James Millar has a strong connection with junior golf and the MAPGA as he participated in the Frank Emmitt Junior Golf Program when he was eight years old. His son, Wes, was also a member of the MAPGA Junior Tour. Golf has had such a lasting impact on him both personally and professionally that he along with the rest of the HITT leadership team are happy to have the opportunity to help children in the D.C. area grow up with golf.
HITT Contracting also supports social responsibility throughout their corporation. They encourage their employees to volunteer and participate in events such as the annual Real Estate Games in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Light the Night events for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
LINDSAY AUTOMOTIVE
The Lindsay Automotive Group has been an important part of the Washington, D.C. metro area community for decades. Beginning with Lindsay Cadillac of Alexandria opening in 1963, three generations of Lindsays have been involved in the daily operations of the dealership family that now includes Lindsay Lexus of Alexandria, Lindsay Ford of Wheaton Md., Lindsay Chevrolet of Woodbridge and Saturn Service Center in Woodbridge Va., plus Isuzu Commercial Trucks of Woodbridge, Lindsay Volkswagen of Dulles in Sterling Va. and most recently Lindsay Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Manassas, Va.
Having been in the same location since 1963, the Lindsay organization is actively engaged in the greater Washington, D.C. community. Their philanthropic philosophy reflects a preference towards activities and events that benefit children. As such, they are not only supporters of the MAPGA Junior Tour, but also regular sponsors of the annual Children’s Ball at Children’s Hospital, the Boys & Girls Club of Alexandria, and Autism Speaks. Lindsay Automotive Group has also been a platinum sponsor of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, and annually sponsors the Alexandria Scottish Christmas Walk and Life with Cancer golf tournament for INOVA Hospital. Through charitable donations, sponsorships, and program advertisements, they support many public and private events and activities in the greater Washington area.
The MAPGA salutes the entire Lindsay family for their generous support, especially Terry and his son Chris, who have been most instrumental in fostering the relationship between Lindsay Automotive and the MAPGA Junior Tour.
