Haggin Oaks Golf Complex To Launch New MacKenzie Putting Course In April

March 3, 2014

Among the century old oak trees of the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex, a new little paradise of sorts has sprouted- and it’s called the MacKenzie Putting Course. Palm trees, birds of paradise flowers, a bubbling brook and challenging holes ranging from 25 to 65 feet await the legions of Northern California golfers.

Opening in April of 2014, The MacKenzie Putting Course will instantly become a favorite with adult, kids and families alike. 9 challenging holes are what stand in the way of you and putting brilliance. This is no miniature putt-putt, nor simply a putting green. To the contrary, The MacKenzie Putting Course sports water hazards, sand traps and sneaky breaks that challenge even the most seasoned putting pros. It’s this unique combination that makes this course fun and a refreshing new challenge with every round.

Local artist John Holland has been commissioned to paint a 100 foot long section of adjacent wall to match the tropical golf theme. John has been in the mural business for over 30 years. Today, his clientele include private residences, casinos, restaurants, hospitals, hotels, fitness centers, retail stores and many others. You are likely to find John working in Sacramento, Lake Tahoe, Reno, Las Vegas, San Francisco, East Bay, South Bay, San Diego and Los Angeles.

Even the new putting course logo is special. Local artist Sue Johnson created a small caricature of a young Alister MacKenzie, the namesake of the championship golf course at Haggin Oaks, as the logo for the putting course. Dressed in oversized plus fours and a golf club as tall as he is, it’s a testament to one of the great course designers of all time and a cute reminder that this will be a favorite location for the thousands of kids touched by The First Tee of Greater Sacramento program.

TruTurf and father/son golf team Mike and David Schy are doing the installation of the project. Over the last decade and a half, TruTurf has become California’s best source for the installation of quality, state-of-the-art artificial turf. The seamless combination of the world’s most realistic synthetic putting green surfaces and natural between-hole vegetation will ensure the ultimate in consistent roll with the beauty that only real plants can provide.

The MacKenzie Putting Course will be a great location for family outings, group functions and of course celebrations, especially for those turning a special age. Next door you’ll find our 24-hour driving range, Player Performance Studio fitting center, three-hole learning academy, 15,000 square foot Golf Super Shop, 36 holes of championship golf and our cutting edge FootGolf course.
