DALLAS – Eagle Golf continues to solidify its position as an innovator in the golf facility management industry with the introduction of FootGolf at its Lake Park Golf Club in Lewisville, Texas.
On Saturday, March 1, the nine-hole, lighted public facility hosted more than 425 enthusiastic FootGolfers at an opening day event. According to Eagle Golf, the facility normally would have about 125 golfers on a Saturday at this time of year.
“As an industry, we’ve been looking for ways to drive participation to fill our golf courses,” said Joe Munsch, CEO of Eagle Golf. “Well, we may have found an answer and it doesn’t involve traditional golf.”
Played informally all over the world, FootGolf as an organized sport began to grow in 2011. With objectives and rules the same as golf, the sport is played on golf courses with a regulation soccer ball. Holes 21 inches in diameter are added to the course (not on the existing greens), and like golf, no referee is needed during play.
“Our FootGolf launch at Lake Park was a tremendous success with nearly three times as many FootGolf players participating as compared to the projected number of golfers for the same day,” he added. “Eagle Golf prides itself on being open to new ideas and improving the customer experience at our facilities and FootGolf will be a major part of our plans moving forward at Lake Park and some of our other courses around the country.”
Lake Park is now offering specific tee times for FootGolf at $9 per round. Players can also rent balls and carts. The lighted course will remain open later in the evening to accommodate FootGolf. “Ultimately, we envision FootGolf players and golfers co-existing on the course at the same time,” said Munsch.
Eagle Golf is planning to launch FootGolf at nine-hole facilities it operates in St. Louis, Mo., and Geneva, Ill., as well as exploring the feasibility of implementing FootGolf at some of its 18-hole facilities.
Because FootGolf is played faster than golf, the course can accommodate more players in a day and generate additional revenue from food and beverage service. FootGolf also brings new customers to the course. A large segment of the FootGolf customers at Lake Park on March 1 had not played golf at the course.
