Bellaire, MI – Inspired by the PGA Show’s “hot topic” of Hack Golf as well as the PGA of America’s Golf 2.0 initiative, Shanty Creek Resorts (SCR) has developed and implemented a variety of programs aimed at attracting more youth, beginners and families to play in a fun and non-intimidating atmosphere.
SCR’s programs will incorporate Golf 2.0 and Hack Golf concepts by utilizing forward tees and the popular new 15-inch cups on the Summit golf course. A new set of forward tees, which range from 95 yards to 125 yards, will join the standard size cups and the larger 15-inch cups on each green. Families will have the option when playing together to play to the standard cup or to the 15-inch cup. SCR is among the first resorts in the nation to make the 15-inch cups option available on a daily basis.
In addition, families along with golfers of all abilities, and non-golfers will be presented with the option to try FootGolf, which will also be set up on the Summit Course at Shanty Creek. FootGolf combines the popular sports of soccer and golf, and uses soccer balls on a traditional golf course with 21-inch diameter cups. The rules largely correspond to the rules of golf, which will make it possible for groups to play traditional golf and FootGolf simultaneously.
“By implementing these innovative and unprecedented programs with 15-inch cups and now FootGolf at Shanty Creek Resorts, we will undoubtedly attract more families and new golfers to the resort, and that is exactly what the industry needs,” explains Brian Kautz, director of golf and PGA Professional for SCR. “With the variety of golf at our resort, now combined with these new unique and fun golfing opportunities, SCR will be the place to bring your family and friends to learn the game of golf.”
These new programs enhance SCR’s status as the perfect affordable family golf destination and as always, children under 17 can golf for FREE on the Summit and Schuss Mountain courses with a paying adult seven days a week. Children can also play FREE on The Legend and Cedar River golf courses on Sundays after 2 p.m.
In addition, during the summer months of July and August, SCR PGA Professionals direct a two-hour weekly junior golf program every Thursday as well as a Junior Golf Camp. The weekly junior program costs $25 for resort guests and includes two-hours of instruction, and one hour of on-course experience. The Junior Golf Camp, which costs $195, includes four-hours of instruction and on-course experience.
The programs, designed to teach juniors the game while the parents are playing golf, incorporate rules, etiquette and history. A junior tournament is also held at the end of August for those who participated in the programs, and the juniors in the programs enjoy unlimited access and use of the driving ranges at both Summit and Schuss.
