Reinvented course in Pebble Beach presents “Firm, Fast & Fun” experience in the forest
PEBBLE BEACH, CA (March 5, 2014) … Tee times can now be reserved at the newest golf destination inside Pebble Beach’s Del Monte Forest – the reinvigorated Poppy Hills Golf Course, which is set for its first day of public play on April 4.
Reservations are being accepted as far as 30 days in advance through the Poppy Hills website, www.poppyhillsgolf.com, or by calling (831) 622-8239. Groups of 12 or more can be booked up to one year in advance, by completing the online tournament request form.
The new design by Robert Trent Jones II Golf Course Architects (RTJ II) reimagines the tournament home of the Northern California Golf Association, restoring each hole to its natural elevation along the forest floor, softening doglegs and contours, reinventing all 18 greens with bentgrass, eliminating rough and introducing native waste areas that help reduce irrigated turf by nearly 25 percent.
“We are looking forward to welcoming back golfers to the new Poppy Hills,” said Brad Shupe, general manager of the golf course. “It’s going to be a firm, fast, fun experience in the forest.”
The fee is $210 per player, with a significant discount for NCGA members. Golf carts are $25 per player.
The new Poppy Hills will play firm and fast, as new irrigation and drainage was installed, and every fairway was sand capped. No rough further promotes imaginative and strategic shot-making both through the air and on the ground, as options that never existed present themselves on every hole.
The course now plays as a par 71, with a rating of 73.5 and a slope of 135 from the back tees. There are five sets of tees ranging from 5,215 to 7,002 yards.
The renovation also includes a remodeled golf shop, restaurant and practice facility.
