Volvik staff player Tim Petrovic finished T14 at the PGA TOUR’s Puerto Rico Open using Volvik’s new White Color S3 golf ball Sunday. It was the first time a Volvik golf ball has been put into play in an official PGA TOUR event. Volvik golf balls are now in play on every major professional tour in the world.
“Watching Tim earn a Top 15 finish in Volvik’s PGA TOUR debut was a very special moment for us,” said Volvik USA President Don Shin. “The PGA TOUR is a tour that takes time to penetrate with a golf ball and Volvik was able to do so very quickly since we launched our US operation here last year. We have had golf balls in play on the LPGA Tour, Champions Tour and Web.com Tour, but for the first time ever we are able to say that Volvik is in play on the PGA TOUR. It was icing on the cake that Tim played so well and greatly improved his performance stats with the White Color S3 ball.”
Petrovic finished 12 under par for the event and earned $59,500 with his Top 15 finish. Petrovic had 23 birdies for the event and increased his driving accuracy by 12.5% over his 2013 average. He bested his other 2014 PGA Tour event driving distance average by 18.8 yards in his first event playing a Volvik golf ball.
The White Color S3 ships to golf retailers April 1. The white/blue hybrid ball already has two wins on the Ladies European Tour and two Top 5 finishes on the 2014 LPGA Tour. Petrovic played the white/blue hybrid version of the S3 in Puerto Rico, but tweeted that ‘Real Men Use Pink’ as he practiced with a Pink version of the S3 all week long at Trump International in Rio Grande. Petrovic has stated that he wants to become the first player to put a Pink golf ball into play on the PGA TOUR.
“I am always looking for the next breakthrough in performance in golf equipment and I believe I found it with Volvik,” said Petrovic. “When I first started testing the Volvik golf balls, I couldn’t believe how good they were around the greens. I was able to really spin it! Then I hit ten straight balls past the balls I was comparing them to. I said, ‘What’s the deal with these colored golf balls?’ Now I know, they just make high performance products.”
Petrovic has earned over $12 million in career earnings on the PGA TOUR and Web.com Tour including one PGA TOUR victory, 11 Top 3 finishes, 34 Top 10 finishes and 104 Top 24 finishes. Petrovic won the 2005 Zurich Classic of New Orleans on the PGA TOUR.
Volvik recently announced the signing of major winners Craig Stadler and Larry Nelson on the Champions Tour in addition to the 12 LPGA Tour players on Volvik’s professional staff. Stadler will play a Volvik Vista iV 4-piece golf ball at the 2014 Masters.
