Golf ranges constructed in the heart of London, New York, Toronto and
San Francisco create dramatic settings for global challenge
CARLSBAD, Calif. (March 11, 2014) – On one day, in four cities, in four iconic locations, TaylorMade Golf is hosting the Speed Pocket World Challenge. The global distance challenge invites golfers to experience the amazing distance-producing power of the Speed Pocket in the new SpeedBlade irons at driving ranges built in the heart of several of the world’s most iconic cities. A global leaderboard is available (click here) and will track the greatest distance gains achieved between a conventional six-iron and the new SpeedBlade six iron featuring Speed Pocket technology.
To ensure authenticity, TaylorMade is utilizing launch monitors and demo technicians to determine if equal effort is put forth on all swings. Golfers will have the opportunity to take three swings using the conventional iron and three swings with the SpeedBlade iron – getting their average distance with each club. The golfer in each city who produces the greatest distance gain will be awarded a set of SpeedBlade irons. In addition to tracking the scoreboard anywhere on the planet through the website, TaylorMade will use the Times Square videoboards to display the global leaderboard.
Retail giant Golfsmith is also partnering with TaylorMade to provide golfers an opportunity to buy the SpeedBlade irons on-site.
Things kick off in London at Canary Warf, where European Ryder Cup Captain and TaylorMade Staff Professional Paul McGinley will demonstrate the benefits of the Speed Pocket before golfers experience it themselves. Across “the pond” in New York City, TaylorMade constructed a driving range in the heart of Times Square with renowned golf instructor Hank Haney.
“I’ve been on a lot of driving ranges in my lifetime, but never one in the middle of Times Square,” said Haney. “TaylorMade is a leader for a reason and this event demonstrates the innovation and creativity this company builds into all of its equipment.”
Toronto’s Speed Pocket World Challenge is at the Royal Bank Plaza, while San Francisco’s Union Square is the final stop with LPGA Star Anna Nordqvist completing the competition that spans seven time zones.
The SpeedBlade irons feature the revolutionary Speed Pocket, which has been widened and lengthened, giving golfers more face area toward the toe and heel that promotes a high launch angle, strong ball flight and a steep, quick stropping descent angle. The Speed Pocket also features a cut through slot internally, which allows for more flex and rebound on the bottom part of the face, making the SpeedBlade iron set the fastest face TaylorMade has ever created, measuring right up to the USGA limit.
