PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – The Keiser University College of Golf & Sport Management (COGSM) has always been dedicated to supporting the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families, so the university eagerly participated in the 2014 Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Charity Golf Tournament recently held at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Keiser University COGSM sponsored a four-man team – comprised of staff and faculty members John McMurry, Dr. Eric Wilson, Brian Hughes, and Ken Martin – who successfully scored second-place at the event. The men shot a 12-under-par 60 and won $250 in a special ‘bazooka’ golf-ball firing, which they immediately donated back to the Scholarship Foundation.
“Keiser University College of Golf & Sport Management is a strong supporter of our nation’s military, and we’re very proud to have taken part in this year’s Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Charity Golf Tournament,” says John McMurry, Vice President of Keiser University College of Golf & Sport Management. “Veterans currently make up about 25 percent of our student population at Keiser University COGSM so we understand the unique needs that many our veterans’ families face. As a result, we work hard to accommodate our nation’s veterans through a variety of scholarships and assistance programs that support them in obtaining a high-quality education for the golf industry.”
The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation is the nation’s oldest and largest provider of need-based scholarships to military children and gives special focus to children whose parent has been killed or wounded in combat, or who have demonstrated financial need. Since its founding in 1962, the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation has provided more than 30,000 scholarships valued at more than $80 million. During the recent 2013-2014 academic year, the Scholarship Foundation awarded more than $6.6 million in scholarships to 2,040 students. For information or donations, visit www.mcsf.org
