33rd annual 3M Augusta Invitational scheduled for April 4-6 at Forest Hills Golf Club
Augusta, Ga. – One of the strongest fields in men’s collegiate golf competition will congregate at Forest Hills Golf Club, April 4-6 as the Augusta Golf Association and Georgia Regents University Augusta hosts the 33rd Annual 3M Augusta Invitational.
A fixture on the college golf scene for over three decades, the 3M Augusta Invitational takes its traditional date the weekend leading up to The Masters.
The 15-team field includes two-time defending champion, University of Texas, plus the host university’s team, which was back-to-back 2010 and 2011 NCAA Div I Men’s National Champions.
Past competitors in the Augusta Invitational read like a Who’s Who of professional golf, including Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth and the hottest player on the PGA Tour, Patrick Reed, who has won three tour events in the past seven months, including two this season. Reed was a driving force on former Augusta State’s two national championship teams.
The tournament is free to the public, with a practice round on Friday, April 4, followed by 36 holes of competition on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday.
The full field includes Georgia Regents University Augusta, Texas, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Baylor, Houston, Purdue, Illinois, Coastal Carolina, UCF, TCU, South Carolina, New Mexico and USC-Aiken.
The tournament will be contested at Forest Hills Golf Club, a vintage Donald Ross design and the site of Bobby Jones’s first tournament victory (the Southeastern Open) during his famous Grand Slam year of 1930. The course is consistently voted “Best Public Golf Course” by readers of Augusta Magazine, and is the home course to Georgia Regents’ Men’s and Women’s Jaguar golf teams.
