Nike Golf Unveils Lunar Control “Play In The Now” Spot

April 2, 2014

New ad pokes some lighthearted fun at golfers afraid to try Nike Lunar Control footwear

BEAVERTON, Ore. (April 1, 2014) – Nike Golf’s newest ad puts the spotlight on Nike’s lightweight Lunarlon technology and Lunar Control footwear, and the cranky characters who see it simply as “hogwash.”

The 60-second spot is the third in Nike’s “Play in the Now” campaign, a series of TV spots that takes a humorous but pointed jab at golfers who are afraid to try new technology. Characters take a journey though past eras of footwear technology, longing for the days of clunky saddle oxfords and screw-ins while laughing at the lightweight technology in Nike’s Lunar Control shoes.

The ad follows “Play in the Now” films on Nike VRS Covert 2.0 technology and the new line of Nike RZN golf balls featuring Speedlock Core technology. The spot will air on ESPN in the U.S., and will also air in Canada, United Kingdom, Japan and Korea.

Accompanying the main 60-second spot are 15-second vignettes featuring characters who think the only place for Lunarlon technology is the moon.

Nike Lunar Control

Nike’s Lunar Control footwear feature’s proprietary full-length Lunarlon technology, a lightweight cushioning system that is highly responsive, resulting in a unique combination of comfort and support.

In addition to Lunarlon foam cushioning, the Nike Lunar Control also features Nike Flywire, another proprietary technology, which wraps from the midfoot to the heel for targeted support and lightweight structure.

“The shoe is designed to be in contact with the ground as much as possible and that enables me to push off the ground with more control,” says Nike Athlete Paul Casey. “For me, it’s always incredible how Nike creates great shoes, and then improves on them in the next generation.”
